Submitting Your Work

We invite you to submit proposals for the following activities:

Paper or Topical Presentations | Each 15 to 20 minute oral presentation will be paired with other complementary presentations in topical sessions. | Deadline: Friday, May 27th.

Workshops | Workshops will provide scholars or professionals an interactive forum to actively engage participants in a given topic. | Deadline: Friday, May 27th.

Panel Discussions | Panels will consist of a small group of experts (likely five to seven) engaging in discussion about a specific topic. | Deadline: Friday, May 27th.

Posters (STUDENTS ONLY) | The poster session will allow students an opportunity to graphically present their research and coursework efforts. All posters will be presented in a single science-fair-esque session, allowing the students to interact and engage with jurors and each other one-on-one. Top posters, as selected by a jury of esteemed educators and professionals, will be awarded prizes. | Deadline: Friday, July 29th.

We happily accept proposals from any location in our global community.  Unfortunately, however, at this time we are unable to provide any travel support for international participants outside of our standard letter of acceptance.

Submission Process

Step 1:  Submit your Proposal

If you are interested in participating in the 2016 ASA Multidisciplinary Research Symposium, you need to start by submitting a proposal, which will include the following information:

- Name(s) and Contact Information

- Institution(s) or Company(ies)

- Department or Field of Expertise

- Faculty Sponsor(s) and Program Level (for students only)

- Type (presentation, workshop, panel, or poster)

- Short Description (50 words maximum)

- Abstract (300-400 words)

- Keywords (3-5)

Your submission can be made by clicking on the link on the sidebar to the left, setting up a free account in the OpenSIUC system, and following the instructions on the screen to create a new submission.

Step 2:  Review

Each proposal will be reviewed by a minimum of two individuals in a thorough, double-blind peer review process. All proposals will be returned with a decision and feedback within one month of the final submission date found in the symposium schedule.

Step 3:  Acceptance and Registration

If your presentation is accepted into the Symposium, you will then need to register in order for the Symposium Committee to put your work into the Symposium schedule. REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE SYMPOSIUM. Information on the registration process can be found here:

Step 4:  Post-Acceptance Opportunities and Responsibilities

Depending on the type of presentation you have had accepted, you may have additional items that need to be managed.

Poster Acceptance | If you have had a poster accepted into the Symposium, you are required to submit a pdf of that poster by the final submission date listed in the Symposium schedule. Failure to submit your pdf may result in your acceptance being withdrawn.  All poster submission must follow all poster guidelines as listed in the Instructions to Authors section of this website (see link below).  To submit your poster, you will return to the Submission Forum, log back into your account, and add your poster to your submission per the interface at the end of the submission form. Please take this opportunity to also revise your abstract per the reviewer comments and re-upload it to the submission site. The poster pdfs will not be peer reviewed. They are collected ahead of the Symposium to verify their formatting and to ensure we have a copy for inclusion in the digital Conference Proceedings.

Oral Presentation Acceptance | If you have had an oral presentation accepted into the Symposium, you are required to submit a pdf of your visual presentation by the final submission date listed in the Symposium schedule. To submit your presentation, you will return to the Submission Forum, log back into your account, and add your poster to your submission per the interface at the end of the submission form. Please take this opportunity to also revise your abstract per the reviewer comments and re-upload it to the submission site. The visual presentation pdfs will not be peer reviewed. They are being collected to ensure we have a copy for inclusion in the digital Conference Proceedings.

An accepted oral presentation also means you have the opportunity to submit a full paper for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings. All full papers submitted will go through a separate double-blind peer review process as outlined below in Step 5: Full Paper Submission

[Top papers, as selected by the Symposium Committee, will be eligible for inclusion in a special edition of the Southern Illinois University College of Applied Sciences and Arts’ Journal of Applied Sciences and Arts [JASA]]

Workshop or Panel Acceptance | If you have had a workshop or panel discussion accepted into the Symposium, you will be contacted by a Symposium Committee representative shortly after receiving your acceptance notification to discuss the details of your proposal and to help develop and coordinate the final product.

Step 5:  Full Paper Submission

If you have had an Oral Presentation Proposal accepted to the Symposium, you have the option of submitting a full paper for a separate double-blind peer review. If you choose to submit a full paper, you will need to log into your account on the Submission site and start a new submission. DO NOT ADD THE FULL PAPER TO YOUR ORIGINAL PROPOSAL SUBMISSION; it will not be reviewed if you do.  Please make sure that your initial paper submission precisely follows the guidelines listed under Full Paper – First Submission in the Instructions to Authors. Following the guidelines will ensure that your work moves efficiently through the review process without any unnecessarily delays.
