May 01, 2015

Students from Lincoln Land Community College Aviation Maintenance program visited SIU Department of Aviation Technologies (AVT) on Friday.  Assistant Professor Don Morris and AVT student Thomas Swehla conducted a tour before students met with Mike Burgener and other faculty for lunch, where they learned about opportunities to continue their education at SIU.

Approximately fifty students competing in the state science fair on Saturday were shuttled to the Southern Illinois airport to tour the Aviation Technologies program. Field Representative Rachel Lee coordinated the transportation and Assistant Professor Don Morris conducted the tour and demonstrations.  Don demonstrated aerodynamics using a supersonic and subsonic wind tunnel, and answered student’s questions about aerodynamics and jet propulsion theory. Students toured the 737 and Gulfstream aircraft and AVT student Wilson Meador provided a demonstration of his homemade pulse jet.
